Gateshead Greencroft kept their promotion hopes alive by defeating close rivals Langley Park Rams Head 1-0 at home. Gateshead are in second place but have only two games left to play whereas the Rams have six but are ten points adrift but anything is possible in football.

Wynyard Veterans now lead the table and now must be odds on favourites as they are two points clear and have five games to play. They won 4-1 away to Wingate. They are in tremendous form being unbeaten since February 7. In Division III Crook Town won 6-0 at home against Hartlepool RNC and lead the table but have only three games left to play so can be overtaken by four other teams. They have had a most remarkable run of success, unbeaten since January 24. They have won all their games scoring 37 goals with only 4 goals against and as three sides are promoted, they appear to still have an excellent chance of being promoted.

In Division IV Thornley Celtic although still in second spot are having a lean spell and must get back on the winning track if they are to achieve promotion. They lost 4-2 away to The Sportsmans Arms.

Wynyard Old Boys held league leaders and odds-on would-be champions and promotion favourites Peterlee FC to a goalless first half but tired in the second half, eventually going down 3-0.

Killingworth Arms won the Villa Real Cup Final on Easter Monday, defeating Holywell Fat Ox 2-1. Killingworth scored first but the Fat Ox levelled right on the stroke of half time. The restart saw end to end football but it was Killingworth who scored the winner. Holywell played very skillfully passing the ball with great accuracy but lacked penetrative power and it was Killingworth who held the edge, their aggresive will to win being uppermost. Killingworth's keeper Tony Clark made his sixth apperance in this final, he has now won five and lost only one.

In The Alan Spedding Cup Semi-Final Newton Aycliffe won 4-3 on penalties. The game finished 1-1, extra time produced no further goals so penalties were necessary. Aycliffe now meet Wardley Green or Grindon Broadway in the final on May 8.

In the Premier, Darlington Croft defeated Lord Seaham 4-0 at home to ease their relegation fears. The relegation issue is still wide open and unlikely to be settled until the last game has been played.

In Division I Barnard Castle Glaxo are looking good for promotion. They more or less shattered the Touchdown's hopes by defeating them 3-1 away from home despite having a slight edge they trailed 1-0 at the interval but levelled straight after the restart when 'Nookie' Proud headed home a Gordon Brown corner. They then took the lead when Brian Littlefair put away a cross from Paul Simpson and the issue was finally settled when Littlefair scored his second of the match and made it 3-1 to the Castle.

In Division II Darlington Railway just could not cope with third-placed Hylton Castle's lively attack and went down 5-1 at home to keep themselves still in relegation trouble as they only have four games left to play and are three points adrift.
