Bishop Auckland manager Brian Honour is almost certain to stay in charge after his team clinched promotion to the UniBond Premier Division on Wednesday.

Bishops ended weeks of agony for their supporters by beating Farsley Celtic 4-2 to guarantee themselves the 13th promotion slot.

Honour said: "Two weeks ago I thought I'd taken this club as far as I could, and I was quite prepared to stand down.

"But the support I've been given since, from everybody, has been superb. I was delighted with the way the players battled against Farsley, especially when they got back into the game at 2-2.

"We're under no illusions that we need to strengthen for next season. I'll be sitting down with the committee to talk things through."

Farsley briefly led 1-0, but Bishops hit back with a Stuart Irvine penalty and an own goal by Rudi Colemo.

Farsley levelled soon after the restart from another penalty, but Steve West headed Bishops back in front, and when Michael Fenwick's cross drifted into the net with eight minutes left, there was a huge sigh of relief around the ground.

Bishops are holding an evening with former Manchester United and Scotland manager Tommy Docherty at Tindale Crescent club on Friday, May 28. Tickets are available from Dave Illingworth on 07736 050739.

Spennymoor, meanwhile, have told Bishops that they can borrow their minibus next season for away games.

Moors have used the bus this season and have told Bishops that as long as they're not using it, then it is available for their use.

Meanwhile, because of injuries and suspensions, boss Tony Lee may only have the bare XI at Gainsborough tomorrow.

Moors are guaranteed a play off place, but will be travelling in their first game to either Bradford PA, Marine or Whitby.

Should Whitby pick up a point this weekend against Droylsden, then they will be at home to Frickley, Burscough or Radcliffe.

Gateshead have warned that they might not survive the summer. Chairman Derek Bell has been having talks with local businesses, but so far has been unable to come up with a saviour.
