MORE than 100 residents of a Darlington street are demanding action from council bosses over its "appalling state".

People living in Salutation Road, in the west end of the town, say they are fed up with the poor road surface and pavements.

A petition, signed by 108 homeowners, condemns the state of the road, which attracts a large volume of traffic.

It states: "Potholes are, from time to time, inadequately repaired, but soon revert to a dangerous state. The footpaths are equally in a dangerous state of neglect."

Protestors have called on the local authority to address the problems as a matter of urgency.

However, a council spokesman said Salutation Road was not presently on its list of highways repair schemes for the next year.

But he said: "We have not finished compiling the list and it is one we will take a look at."
