Arsenal may have clinched the Premiership title last weekend but I bet the celebrations were not as poignant as those at Spennymoor United's Brewery Field when Newton Aycliffe lifted the Spennymoor Sunday League First Division Cup.

Young Ben Stevens lifted the Cup in memory of his Dad Paul who tragically died recently and Paul's strike partner Dave Muir scored two goals in the final. Paul Stevens had scored in all previous rounds of the Cup right through to the semi-final so it was a fitting tribute that his very close friend Dave and son Ben were able to play a big part in the final. And well done to the whole team for coming through a difficult time to triumph.

Yorkshire and England's next bowling sensation might just come from Teesside. Well done to 18-year-old Dan Conway who has just been snapped up by Yorkshire Cricket Club after impressing at their Pathways to Excellence scheme. The scheme coaches young players until they reach academy level and Dan impressed so much that he was taken on even though the club had already filled their quota of Academy players. Dan, who only left Marton Juniors 12 months ago, looks set for a very bright future. The local sports academies, in both football and cricket, are doing an excellent job in uncovering local talent and encouraging young people to fulfil their potential.

I wonder what young footballers made of the fracas during Leicester City's game against Manchester City last weekend? Not the best example being set by highly paid professional sportsmen. I know it was a very tense game, with both teams desperate for points but is there really any need for the ugly scenes which followed the awarding of a penalty to Leicester. There was no repeat of these scenes when Bishop Auckland Schools faced Portsmouth on Tuesday. Sadly the boys failed to win the trophy in a tight second leg but they deserve a lot of credit for a brilliant season.

Don't forget to join me and the rest of the team tomorrow on 96.6tfm. The fun starts with Ditchy, myself and Terry Cochrane at noon then we get down to the serious business live from all the local games from 2pm. Hartlepool take on already promoted Plymouth at Victoria Park and Darlington will be looking for a bumper crowd for their last home game of the season when Swansea visit. Call TFM after 5pm to react to your team's performance with Tom Davies. Then on Sunday we'll keep you in touch with happenings from Anfield as Boro take on Liverpool, a game that will have repercussions for both the Merseysiders and for their rivals for the last Champions League spot, Newcastle United. Boro doing Newcastle a favour - what would the fans think of that?
