Fame Academy finalist Alistair Griffin returns to the region this month for a performance in front of thousands of fans.

Alistair, 26, from Castleton, North Yorkshire, will headline the Re:Generation stage at the free all-day Middlesbrough Music Live festival, on Bank Holiday Monday, May 31.

It will be an emotional visit for the lifelong Boro fan, and the first full-scale concert he has played on Teesside.

"It's an absolute honour," he said.

"Music Live is a great gig to play. I seem to have a fantastic following up there."

Alistair, whose single, Bring It On, was a top five hit earlier this year, became a national celebrity when he reached the final of Fame Academy, which was shown on BBC1.

He narrowly lost out to winner Alex Parks, but attracted praise from Bee Gee Robin Gibb, who later duetted with the young songwriter on his best-selling debut album, also called Bring It On.

Middlesbrough festival promoter Graham Ramsay said: "I'm delighted that he's agreed to make Music Live the occasion for what will be a great homecoming gig."

About 100 bands will appear on stages across the town centre during Music Live and more than 30,000 music fans are expected to attend the festival.

Bands already confirmed to appear include Electric Six, Razorlight, Mark Joseph and Goldie Lookin' Chain, with more being confirmed every day.
