WORK by a steel sculptor is on display at an east Durham gallery.

The two pieces at Seaton Holme, in Easington, took Ray Lonsdale about 40 hours each to shape out of two-millimetre sheet metal.

Panic and Grief Inside and Outside are part of a ten-piece exhibition to be held in Birmingham next month.

Mr Lonsdale, 39, of South Hetton said: "If you look inside the head of the Grief piece there is a figure in there showing the personal side of grief while outside represents the more public side.

"It is supposed to give it another level and involve people a bit more to get them to look past the surface.

"Panic comes from the feeling I had when I was worried that I would not have enough pieces for the exhibition."

Mr Lonsdale's work is only some of the pieces the public can see at Seaton Holme.

Lorraine Nabar will be displaying tapestries and hand- crafted items in the large function room, between 11am and 4pm on Sunday.

Between May 12 and June 14, Ena Devine will be showing encaustic art, pictures made using hot wax and an iron, in The Long Gallery.

On May 27, Derek Priest will displaying acrylics, some of his work having appeared on ITV soap Coronation Street.

Jean Walker is continuing with her exhibition of award-winning porcelain dolls until June 1.
