ADAM Boyd was yesterday doubly rewarded for his April form, and if he continues in the same vein everyone at Hartlepool United could be celebrating another success in May.

Boyd was named both the Umbro Isotonic Division Two player of the month and the leading scorer throughout the Nationwide League after bagging seven goals in six games.

While boss Neale Cooper missed out on the manager of the month award for April, Boyd's double honour sees Pool's achievements in moving into the play-off zone recognised.

He received a magnum of champagne for each award, as well as a glass trophy.

If Pool avoid defeat in Saturday's final League game at Swindon they will be assured of a place in the play-offs, with a place in Division One at stake. Even a defeat could be enough, providing Port Vale fail to win at Rushden.

Boyd's form has been the catalyst to propelling Pool into sixth spot. He returned from a loan spell at Boston to strike the best form of his career.

He has netted 11 goals in only nine games and admitted: "This came out of the blue. I knew nothing about it and didn't expect it, but it's nice to get some recognition.

"I will keep the champagne for now - they are nice mementoes to keep.

"Maybe I will crack them open if we get into the First Division.

"If we make the play-offs, we have no-one to worry about. We are the form team and have a great away record. Why shouldn't we be confident about the next few weeks?''

Cooper said: "Adam's been a revelation in the last few weeks and a pleasure to work with. He deserves the award.''

Spokesman Ian Christon, part of the judging panel alongside ex-Chelsea defender Paul Elliott, said: "He finally appears to be delivering on his undoubted promise.

"He could yet be the man to take Hartlepool to Division One.''

* Saturday's trip to Swindon is all-ticket for Pool fans, with over 2,000 spaces allocated at the County Ground.
