People living in Teesdale are being warned to be vigilant after two men claiming to be water officials tried to enter a house in Barnard Castle.
Nothing was stolen in the incident, which happened on Wednesday at about 5pm.
The bogus officials were not carrying authentic identification cards and had asked to turn on the taps in the house.
