UP to eight jobs are to be created at Homeware Heating Supplies, in Darlington, with the expansion of its main building in Valley Street.
Work has begun on the three storey extension, which will house bathroom and fireplace showrooms, a cafe, offices and a warehouse.
It is the largest development in the family business's 32-year history and managing director Paul Cheffings said the jobs would become available when the building work was complete.
The company offers customers a choice of heating, fireplace, bathroom and kitchen appliances.
