VISITOR attractions across the region are planning a range of fun days this Bank Holiday weekend.

From Saturday, May 29, to Monday, May 31, visitors to Bede's World, in Jarrow, South Tyneside, will be entertained by living history group Theod, which will re-enact every day Anglo-Saxon life.

Demonstrations will include cooking, spinning, weaving, combat and historical horsemanship skills.

Saturday's event will also feature a demonstration from silversmith Les Howe, who will make fine silver jewellery based on early Northumbrian designs.

Darlington Railway Centre and Museum is holding a steam weekend from Saturday, May 29, to Monday, May 31, from 11am to 4pm, with nostalgic rides in a brake van behind an old steam engine.

The Museum of Hartlepool will hold Float your Boat, a ship-building workshop, on Monday, May 31, from 1pm to 4pm.

Other events planned include Romans and Brigante Celts brought back to life at Segedunum Roman Fort, in Wallsend, North Tyneside; a flower festival at Sunderland Museum andWinter Gardens; and storytelling at the Laing Art Gallery, in Newcastle.

The events are part of celebrations to mark National Museum and Galleries Month.
