GOVERNMENT inspectors say one of the region's youth services provides value for money in a report published this week.

The Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) found that the North Yorkshire service was satisfactory and well supported by the county council.

Inspectors found that the overall standard of young people's achievements was high and youth workers were enthusiastic and able to use their expertise and local knowledge to create a range of opportunities for young people.

However, they also found a number of weaknesses, saying that the service had insufficiently reliable management information, policies on race awareness were not effectively implemented and a minority of workers were reluctant to challenge inappropriate behaviour.
