At the North-East Track and Field championships held at Gateshead stadium on Saturday and Sunday Chris Gaffney stormed to a tremondous victory in the under-13 boys 800m after an opening lap of 71 seconds Gaffney took the pace up with 300m to go crossing the line to take the gold medal in 2mins 29.7 secs.

Adam Little also in the under 13 boys claimed two bronze medals with two tremondous performances in the 200m recording 29 seconds and in the long jump with a jump of 3m 96 cm.Amy Fleming took bronze in the under 15 girls high jump with 1m 40 cm and was also 5th in the 200m in a time of 28.7 secs as well as 7th place in the long jump with 4m 21cm.

Abby Wilson ran a seasons best to take the bronze medal in the under 17 girls 800m in a time of 2mins 28 secs and also finished 6th in the 1500m in a time of 5mins 11 secs. Lewis Moses produced a personal best and new club record in the under 20 mens 1500m finishing 7th in a time of 4mins 6.7secs. Then recorded 1min 59 secs in both heat and final of the 800m to take 5th place in two very competitive races. In the under 13 boys 100m Adam Little finished 5th in a personal best time of 14.38. James Askew ran in the 3000m finishing 8th in a PB of 12 mins 23 secs. Phil Moore finished 12th in the under 17 boys 3000m in 10 mins 22 secs. Adam Harker finished 6th in the under 20 mens 400m in 56.6 secs and then 5th in his heat of the 800m in a time of 2mins 6.6secs.

Neil Robinson was 17th in the under 20 mens 1500m with a time of 4mins 35secs. In the under 15 girls 800m Amy Gaffney ran 2mims 41secs to finish 6th in her heat. Kimberley Adamson jumped 4m 53cm in the under 17 girls long jump to finish 6th.

On Tuesday 11th May at the Carlton Challenge Newton Aycliffe finished 2nd team behind Thirsk and Sowerby. Carl Mustill running in his first team race for the club was first back for Aycliffe in 5th place in a time of 35mins 48secs. He was followed by Peter Milburn in 14th place in a time of 37mins 49 secs closely followed by Adam Gibson in 15th place in 38mins 19 secs. George Reid was 24th in 40mins 56secs despite falling and breaking his elbow but still continued to help the team into 2nd place. Other results were Tony Brewer 54th in 45mins 20secs, Sue Milburn ran a time of 45mins 52 secs to finish in 62nd place despite falling over.
