Chester-le-Street had just a couple of runs to spare defeating South Shields at Wood Terrace, writes Malcolm Pratt.

John Coxon, who appeared in the first team at the weekend, top scored with 34 and Stephen McTaggart ended unbeaten on 26 in the visitor's total of 94 for seven.

Gregg Siddell and Kris McShane both took two wickets for South Shields who were 92 for seven at close of play. Bobby Scorer contributed 41, Mark Appleton 20 and Kris Nichol 15.

Greg Applegarth was in superb form for Sunderland who defeated South Hetton by seven wickets. he carrie dhis bat for 76 in a total of 98 for three at South Hetton who batted first, made 97 for six.

Runs were less plentiful at Whitburn who were all our for 45 against Burnmoor for whom R Anderson, Ludlow and J Anderson all claimed two wickets. David Race returned figures of two for 13 in the Whitburn attack but Burnmoor still won with six wickets remaining.

Paddy Dias was in good all-round form for Durham City in their home fixture with Gateshead Fell.

He ended undefeated on 60 and Tom Ellis added 33 to the Durham City total of 116 for one before The Fell replied with 69 for eight which included 23 by Richie Smith. Dias returned the excellent figures of four for ten to complete a good night's performance.

Kane (55no) and Pringle with an unbeaten 27 scored most of the runs when Hetton Lyons reached 84 for one at Felling who were 44 for five as Barry claimed three for 18 runs.

At Bunker Hill, Philadelphia defeated Boldon by just a couple of runs. Making first use of the wicket, Phili were all out for just 51 as Simpson took three for six and Lamb, Burn and Brown all captured two wickets.

Responding, Boldon managed only 39 for eight as Jonathan Loach returned three for 16 and Tom Raine three for five.
