MORE than 6,000 households have benefited from energy-saving measures as a result of Government grants, according to new figures.

Since the Powergen Warm Front Scheme began in North Yorkshire in 2000, 6,390 homes have been given insulation, new heating systems, replacement boilers and heating repairs.

But Powergen is warning that there are still plenty of eligible households that have not yet applied. Anyone receiving an income or disability-related benefit or credit could be eligible for a grant of up to £2,500 to provide free improvements to their heating and insulation.

Terry Booth, of Powergen Warm Front in North Yorkshire, said: "We're delighted that we've managed to help so many people in the region to live in warmer, healthier homes."
