YOUNG people attending a Ferryhill drop-in centre have been brushing up on their artistic skills.

The latest project for the 11 to 18-year-olds who visit the e.caf in the town is a mural on an animal theme for the entrance corridor.

The development of art and craft projects has been helped by a £500 grant from the North Eastern and Cumbrian Co-op's community dividend scheme.

The scheme, which benefitted more than 300 organisations in the North-East and Cumbria last year, aims to support community projects.

Ferryhill's e.caf has proved a huge success since it opened two years ago, regularly attracting 45 young people.

In addition to the art and craft activities, which have also included banner designing and jewellery making, the drop-in centre has computers, pool tables and a wide range of games.
