Darlington welterweight Oscar Hall is back on track and has his sights set a British title fight to be screened on BBC television, writes Craig Stoddart.

After a turbulent six months the 29-year-old recorded a much-needed victory last week and is now waiting to hear whether he'll face Alan Bosworth for the vacant British title.

Hall got back into the winning groove with a points win over Leeroy Williamson of Worcester - his 29th win from 33 bouts, losing only three.

But until last November Hall was yet to taste defeat however, a below-par performance in his home town at the Dolphin Centre spelled disaster against Gary Reid and this was soon followed by another defeat, this time at the hands of Francis Barrett in Bethnal Green, London.

A victory followed in March at the Dolphin Centre but a shock pairing with Junior Witter as a late replacement - Hall bravely accepted the invitation just two hours before entering the ring against the man ranked eighth in the world - meant another loss.

But he maintains the defeats have made him a better fighter, saying: "I feel stronger for it, I've come through it feeling even more determined."

At the start of last year Hall won a title eliminator, ironically, against Bosworth, which put him in line for a stab at a British title fight, but it never materialised.

He said: "I'm hopeful that this time something will happen, it better because I'm not getting any younger! The BBC have a couple of shows lined up for the summer and hopefully I'll be on one."
