MOTHER-TO-BE Jennifer Webb gave birth to a bouncing baby girl - with a little help from TV hospital drama Holby City.

She panicked when she realised she was going into labour but quick-thinking neighbours, alerted by her screams, sprang into action.

Luckily, they are huge fans of the top medical drama and between them they put all their midwifery skills - taken from the show - to the test and made sure the birth went without a hitch.

Ms Webb, 24, of Holnest Avenue, Middlesbrough, went into labour at home and told her grandmother Margaret Alderson to call an ambulance. But as she took a bath to ease the labour pains, she suddenly realised she was only moments away from giving birth.

She said: "I knew the baby was too far on and I was panicking."

Neighbours Johanna Pritchard, 33, Carol Robinson, 40, and Rosalind Nudd, 43, found Jennifer at home, after seeing her grandmother outside.

Mother-of-five Ms Robinson took the phone and took instructions from emergency operators.

But it was barmaid Ms Pritchard's recollection of BBC's Holby City, which made the difference.

The mother-of-three said: "I knew from watching Holby City when you want to push, you have to push, or it causes stress to the baby and so we had to get her out."

Ms Webb gave birth to a baby girl weighing 7lb 9oz and is still deciding what to call her daughter.

She said: "I am glad my neighbours were here, because I could not have done it without them."
