A CHARITY that aims to steer children away from crime by throwing them in jail is being backed by big business.

Express delivery firm TNT is lending its support to the No Way Trust, a registered charity which aims to deter youngsters from becoming involved in criminal and anti-social behaviour.

From its North-East base in Framwellgate Moor, near Durham City, the trust tours schools and youth groups with a 7.5-tonne rigid truck that houses a replica of a prison cell.

Staff at TNT's depot in nearby Houghton-le-Spring have offered a free maintenance and repair service to keep the trust on the road.

Richard Mellor, TNT depot general manager, said: "The No Way Trust is a very ambitious and progressive charity with an excellent track record.

"Its work could make all the difference when it comes to helping young people make the right choices in life."

Douglas Evans, No Way Trust national co-ordinator, said the partnership with TNT would be invaluable in ensuring that the trust was able to get its key messages across to youngsters and teenagers.

He said: "It's great that TNT is able to ensure our vehicle remains in tip-top condition to help us deliver the service to schools and other forums the length and breadth of the country."
