Richmond and Zetland Harriers: Richmond and Zetland Harriers kicked-off their weekend's competition on Saturday 3rd with the Burn Valley Half Marathon and 3 mile Fun Run at Masham.

Paul Scott and Grete Buck both ran in the Half Marathon, finishing 51st in 1:40:26 and 199th in 2:16:22 respectively. The route is advertised as undulating and scenic; the runners prefer to call it hard going and this year the first eight miles, the hilliest section, was also against strong headwinds. Of course, this meant the last few miles were a lot easier and fortunately the rain stopped just in time so, apart from the wind, the conditions were good - and, of course, the views were spectacular! Several younger Harriers competed in the Fun Run and Philip Fitzpatrick ran out the winner; Marc Scott was 4th overall and 1st boy aged 10 years and under in a time of 19:16, closely followed by Jacob McRobert (2nd boy) and Rob Scott (3rd boy) and Tom Keavney who gave great support to younger sister Alice. There were 149 finishers and all the youngsters ran well on a blustery afternoon and enjoyed the excellent refreshments, mementos and prizes provided by the local community afterwards.

The third fixture in the Northern Senior T&F League was on Sunday 4th at Monkton Stadium, Jarrow and the Men finally beat the Women, scoring 135 points to 115, although the Women were outnumbered ten to six and were missing Fiona Hughes. Both halves of the team were without their Captains but this didn't deter performances: the Men had seven A-string and six B-string wins, the Women six and five and, together with the Officials points, they outscored Tynedale by 275 to 253 points. The weather was quite a factor on the day with the first heavy shower flooding the shot put circle and rendering it unusable, the second curtailing the long jump and subsequent ones delaying the sprint hurdles and then soaking the 5000m runners. Kim Bartram was the biggest points scorer with 29 garnered from two first and three second places in five A-string events; Dan Brooks took the honours for the Men with 22 points from his five events.
