A consultancy in Darlington has won a contract to work on a groundbreaking medical facility.

AMP Consultants, which employs eight people in the town, is providing a steel superstructure design for the first polyclinic in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

The clinic will house health services, including some outpatient services.

AMP, which has worked on a number of hospital projects, was awarded the contract by Admiral Construction and is working with Manchester architects PRP.

David Hodgson, AMP's engineering director, said: "The polyclinic is designed to give people greater choice about the health care they receive and to access services that can only usually be obtained by visiting a hospital.

"It will provide outpatient services normally found in hospitals, as well as specialist health services, groups and health classes. It will also have space for some meeting rooms and offices."
