FOUR hospices have benefited thanks to savers with Darlington Building Society.

St Teresa's Hospice. in Darlington, Butterwick Hospice Care, in Stockton, Teesside Hospice Foundation Care, in Middlesbrough, and Hartlepool and District Hospice, each received £510 when the society's Hospice Supporter savings account paid out its annual bonus.

One per cent of the average total balances held in all Hospice Supporter Accounts are paid to the four hospices.

Peter Rowley, Darlington Building Society's chief executive, said: "When we launched our Hospice Supporter Account in August last year, we were pleased once again to be able to demonstrate our commitment to looking after local interests in a tangible way. This account has proved very popular with savers, and almost 1,000 accounts have been opened."

Jane Bradshaw, director of St Teresa's Hospice, said: "I would encourage all local savers to open a Hospice Supporter Account."

Earlier in the year, each hospice received £925 after Darlington Building Society donated 35p for each valid proxy vote form received prior to the society's annual meeting.
