AN incident room set up to investigate the stabbing of a young woman has been inundated with telephone calls from members of the public.

Hazel Robinson remains in a critical condition at the James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, following the incident late on Friday night at an address in Heddon Grove, Ingleby Barwick, near Stockton.

The 21-year-old fitness instructor suffered multiple injuries and has undergone two operations.

Her partner, 23-year-old Martin Shaw, a bodybuilder and former doorman, suffered superficial stab wounds to his neck and abdomen in the incident, but his condition is not life-threatening. He is under police guard at the same hospital.

No one else was injured during the attack.

The officer in charge of the case, Acting Detective Inspector Adrian Bradley, said: "We have been overwhelmed by the wonderful response and I can't thank the public en-ough.

"My officers are sifting through a large volume of information to get a better picture of Hazel and the days leading up to this terrible incident."

He added: "I would urge any colleague, associate or friend of Hazel's who have not spoken to police to please do so. What can seem insignificant to them can still help us immensely."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the incident room on (01642) 302388.
