EFFORTS to cash in on the Selby rail disaster sparked fury yesterday as a painting by convicted killer driver Gary Hart went up for auction.

A painting by Hart, who caused the accident that left ten dead, was put up for sale on the Internet auction site ebay.

Described by the vendor as: "An original North Sea Camp prison painting by Gary Hart (responsible for the Selby train crash disaster) completed 250 days before his possible release date, as written on the canvas by Gary Hart himself.

"Painted on a prison bedsheet used as a canvas using watercolour, gouache and bleach. Signed on the front and rear by Gary Hart.

"Now controversially released on parole and pursuing a career in the arts, this is bound to be an appreciating investment."

The picture is called Hear No! Speak No! See All! and was painted while Hart was serving five years after being found guilty of causing the deaths when his Land Rover veered off the M62 on to the East Coast Main Line and causing a GNER express train from Newcastle to crash.

The widow of chef Paul Taylor, of Longbenton, North Tyneside, who died in the crash, said about the sale: "It's absolutely disgusting and anyone even thinking about buying the picture should be ashamed of themselves and they would also have to be very sick.

"I was told he would not be able to make any money out of who he was and what has happened, but the person who is selling the picture is just as bad as him.

"The fact is, now that he is out of prison, it's all over for him but it will never be over for us.

"It makes me feel sick to the stomach.
