AFTER impressing in the recent Spa 24-hour sportscar race, North-East driver Warren Hughes has landed a seat in the next round of the prestigious Le Mans Endurance Series at Silverstone, writes Mattt Westcott.

Newcastle-born Hughes will share a TVR in the GT class, driving with former MG Le Mans team-mate Jonny Kane. The pair, both acknowledged top-line drivers, have been brought in, in an attempt to show the true potential of the TVR on the international sportscar arena.

"It's great to be racing with Jonny again," Hughes said. "We formed a very good line-up at MG and now, with the TVR, I think we can really surprise people.

"By all accounts the car is extremely fast, but it is a relatively unknown quantity on the European scene, so I think we can cause a shock."

The TVR, run by Chamberlain Synergy Motorsport, raced at the Le Mans 24-hour race earlier this year and made it to the finish of the gruelling event and since then considerable development has taken place in order to unlock more speed from the car.

The race which will take place next weekend will be held over 1000kms and run into Saturday evening.

Hughes, who lives in Sunderland, is focusing on the remaining Le Mans Endurance Series races to further add to his reputation in Sportscars in the hope of securing a permanent seat for next season.
