JUDGING is now under way in The Northern Echo's Big Chance competition - designed to find the best new North-East group or artist.

The winner of the Revolution Big Chance will win four days in the Sanity Multimedia recording studio, Stockton, 100 pressed CDs, artwork and money towards printing.

This year's contest has received 64 entries, 14 more than last year, and judges are now reviewing entries so a shortlist of ten can be uploaded on to the Revolution website for public voting.

The four entries receiving the highest number of votes from the public and judges will play at the Big Chance final on September 24 at The Forum, in Borough Road, Darlington.

Revolution web editor and judge Sean Leonard said: "The standard of entries is high. It will not be easy selecting the best ten, but we will have the top tracks on the website in the next few days."

Other judges include Michael Atkinson, Sheelagh Caygill, Michael Ward and Steve Walsh, the manager of the Music Zone, Darlington.

The Big Chance is sponsored by Music Zone, Blackett Hart and Pratt, and Air Clothing.

CD design work will be carried out by Middlesbrough advertising agency House of Type.

It is presented in partnership with 96.6tfm radio, and station DJ Cara Pattison will present the Big Chance final.
