Wearside League: Washington Nissan UK, who finished bottom of the table last season, fielded a severely weakened side and newcomers Coxhoe Athletic took full advantage romping to a 19-0 win.

After establishing a seven-goal interval lead Coxhoe didn't relent and banged in another 12 in the second half.

Stephen Carruthers helped himself to five goals, Paul Harnott struck four times and there were hat-tricks for Neil Charlton and Lee Atkinson.

Andrew Richardson bagged a brace and Nissan's misery was compounded when Gary O'Hara and Philip Best also struck.

Darlington RA made it three wins out of three to become the early pace-setters but they had to work hard for a lone-goal victory at Stokesley SC. There was never much to choose between two well-matched teams and the outcome was decided in the 22nd minute when Michael Cater hit the target.

Jarrow have also made an encouraging start and they took their points tally to seven out of a possible nine defeating New Marske 3-0.

Dean Patton was again among the goals, scoring twice with Gary Attewell also on the mark for the South Tynesiders.

After taking an early lead through Stephen Rochester, Ryhope CW lost 2-1 to Cleadon SC. Mark Johnson levelled before the break and snatched the winner with only 15 minutes remaining.

Birtley Town have won both their opening games following up a first-day victory over New Marske by defeating Whitehaven 3-1. Anthony Cosgrove and Michael Ford scored within two minutes immediately after the interval but Birtley suffered a blow when Anthony Lynch was sent off on the hour.

Craig Nichols put Whitehaven back into the game four minutes later but depleted Birtley withstood home pressure and clinched the points with a late goal from Carl Pennington.

Only one of the scheduled four Sunderland Shipowners' Cup ties went ahead and Ferryhill Athletic made their exit despite cancelling out Cleator Moor Celtic's early two-goal lead.

Gary George and Michael Fiddler scored early in the second half, Paul Gibson and Gavin Bage levelled for Ferryhill, but three more Moor goals ensured they progressed into round two.
