COACH Martyn Moxon reckons he will have two hours today to sort out the nightmare which wrecked Australian paceman Shaun Tait's Durham debut, writes Tim Wellock.

Durham travel to Colchester for a four-day game starting against Essex tomorrow, in which Tait will definitely play, despite figures of none for 113 in 12 overs against Somerset.

He bowled 21 no-balls and Moxon said: "We just don't know where it came from because he says he has never had a problem before.

"He seems a smashing lad and he's obviously gutted. I feel really sorry for him, but we're taking our bowling coach, Alan Walker, with us to Colchester and we'll just have to work with Shaun when "His problem is just continuing a trend from our point of view - we haven't had a lot of luck with our overseas bowlers this season.

"We were looking forward to seeing him. He's a young Aussie with a big reputation and his arrival created a lot of expectation. Then when something like this happens it becomes a depressing atmosphere.

"In practice he had bowled with serious pace, but when things start to go wrong it's difficult to put them right in match conditions. He got to the stage where he couldn't run in and bowl."

In a game in which the first two days were lost to the weather, Moxon revealed that he felt play should have started after lunch on Saturday, when the umpires abandoned all hope of a start at 3.15.

"With the amount of rain we had it was inevitable that water would get under the covers," he said. "There was water coming up from the bowlers' run-ups on Saturday morning, but not in the afternoon. They would have been soft, but I felt we should have given it a go.

"Somerset weren't keen and the umpires didn't want to be liable if anybody got injured."
