AN elderly woman was seriously ill in hospital last night after an accident in Malton.
The woman, who has yet to be named, was in collision with a lorry in Wheelgate, in the centre of the town, at about 2.25pm.
She suffered serious leg injuries and was taken to York District Hospital.
The lorry driver was said to be suffering from shock but was otherwise unhurt.
The road was closed for about four hours after the incident and police had to set up diversions for other traffic.
Investigators are appealing for any witnesses to the accident to contact them on (01723) 509555.
