Hawes B were denied their first victory of the season at the death last Saturday after a desperate Reeth fightback.

Reeth threw everything at the visitors in the opening stages, but the Hawes B defence and keeper kept them out.

The home side were then hit with a double sucker punch midway through the first half as Mark Blackhurst put Hawes ahead and Steve Ward finished brilliantly under pressure.

Michael Platt got his first Reeth goal from the penalty spot before half-time and Steven Allinson skipped past the keeper to level on the hour mark.

But Hawes B stunned their opponents again as Ward went straight up the park to restore the visitors' advantage, and the striker clipped home his hat-trick goal to make it 4-2 with 20 minutes to go.

The visitors were reduced to ten men and Allinson reduced the deficit in the 82nd minute when he flicked home at the near post.

Just when Hawes B thought they had repelled everything Reeth could throw at them, Allinson popped up to head home a Tony Bowers free kick three minutes into injury time to salvage a 4-4 draw.

Carperby moved into second spot with a comfortable 5-1 victory over Spennithorne.

Paul Stephenson put them ahead with a well-taken goal after seven minutes and John Pickard's shot was turned in by a Spenny defender moments later.

Aaron Davis and Pickard made it four before half-time and, although Spenny improved in the second half, Tim Peacock rounded off the win with a thunderous effort.

Bowes were also comfortable winners, beating Askrigg 6-2 at home with hat-tricks from Wayne Thwaites and Andrew Close.

The visitors took a surprise third-minute lead with a superb volley from Richard Alderson, but Close levelled within minutes after good work from Thwaites.

The strike pair combined for Thwaites to put Bowes ahead and he completed his hat-trick before the break.

Rory Edwards set up Close for the fifth and his hat-trick goal, with Ben Coates' persistence rewarded with a consolation goal for Askrigg.

Richmond Mavericks A's title hopes were dented as they were held 1-1 by Colburn Town.

Alan Fenney once again deputised for injured Mavericks keeper Ryan Matthews and he was beaten by one of his fellow defenders midway through the first half as he tried to halt a Colburn attack.

But Gary Nicholson levelled from a tight angle and Mavericks came closest to grabbing a winner.

Scott Fenney hit the inside of the post and Ben Hodgson struck the underside of the bar from a free kick, with Nicholson's attempt to follow up clearing the bar.

Leaders Middleham's clash with Richmond Buck was postponed as there was no referee, with Town showing their class as they won a friendly between the sides 7-0.

Hawes United's clash at home to Leyburn was scuppered by the local sheep - with the referee deciding they had left too much of a mark on the pitch.
