A RUSTY slag ladle has been cleaned up to create a lasting reminder of the North's steel-making heritage.
The 15-ton ladle, which is six metres wide, was lowered into place at the South Tees Business Centre, in South Bank, near Middlesbrough, after it was given a new lease of life.
Cleveland Fire Brigade's Prince's Trust team, from Redcar, carried out the cleaning, while the North York Moors Railway, based in Pickering, donated a 30ft track bed and Corus donated ballast to keep the track in place.
The ladle was used at the Bessemer Works, 800 metres from the business centre, in Puddlers Road.
Centre manager Adrian Howell said: "The arrival of the slag ladle has created a great deal of interest. It will provide a fantastic link with the past to the new high-tech jobs we have been creating in the centre."
The journey was filmed by students from Cleveland College of Art and Design's video production course.
The students plan to distribute a commemorative video and DVD.
