NURSERY teachers have been praised for taking advantage of specialist support schemes for toddlers.

Rosedene Nursery, in Greenstones Road, Redcar, was commended by Ofsted inspectors for the quality of teaching.

Park Lane Infant School, in Guisborough, was also praised by inspectors for preparing the children for school education.

Rosedene, a privately owned nursery, receives support from advisory teachers from SureStart, a government-backed group that supports pre-school children and their parents.

Liz Pickard, a SureStart senior advisory teacher, said: "The quality of the early education delivered in the private day nurseries has benefited from the input of the advisory teachers we now have in post.

"The nursery staff at Rosedene and across the borough are all really keen to improve their knowledge and skills to provide activities which promote the development of all the children attending."

Park Lane Infant School also worked with SureStart to establish the Gatsby project which helps children prepare for school nursery in the term prior to them starting school.
