A MEETING will take place this week to give people the chance to learn more about a multi-million pound international nature reserve to be created on Teesside.

Representatives of the RSPB and the Teesside Environmental Trust (TET) will give updates on the project at noon on Friday at the Masonic Hall, in Wellington Street, Stockton.

The event aims to give more information for locals and organisations about the project and encourage them to get involved.

The project aims to develop a nature reserve at Saltholme, near Port Clarence, with the creation of pools, tracks, hides and walkways, as well as the construction of a wild bird discovery centre and an education centre.

Backed by Stockton Borough Council, the project is one of the largest wetland re-creation projects in the North and will attract rare species to the area, boosting the Tees Valley's biodiversity.

The site is due to open in 2007 and the RSPB and TET believe Saltholme will become one of the largest tourist attractions in the Tees Valley.
