THREE RAF servicemen have raised £500 for charity by completing the Berlin Marathon.
The trio from RAF Leeming, North Yorkshire - Officer Commanding Flt Lt Morgan Williams, Cpl Derek Robinson and Cpl Stuart Thorlby-Coy, who are members of the base's general defence training section - all finished the race in around four and a half hours.
They have donated the money raised to the Scott Suite at the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton, which assists women with breast cancer
It was their first marathon and Cpl Thorlby-Coy only arrived back in the UK from Iraq two weeks before it was due to take place. Most of his training was done on a running machine about 100 miles north of Baghdad.
Officer Commanding Flt Lt Williams said: "On reflection, (this was) a very satisfying achievement, both personally and to be able to raise money for a good cause. The marathon has definitely been pencilled into the diary for 2005.
