A MENTAL health worker from the North-East has won a national literary competition.
Catherine Flanigan, who works for Stockton Integrated Mental Health Services, has won the BBC national literary competition End of Story, for the story started by Marian Keyes.
End of Story is a BBC television challenge open to the public, inviting them to finish a short story started by one of eight authors.
Out of 2,000 entrants, Ms Flanigan won the ultimate prize of becoming a published author.
She was also given £2,000 by Ms Keyes to buy a laptop computer to help her launch her writing career.
Ms Flanigan, who runs newsletters for the health group, said: "I am absolutely delighted to have won this competition and become a published author. It has been a fantastic experience and given me the inspiration to consider a writing career.
"I am now due to meet a literary agent to discuss a possible future in writing."
