THE following matters were discussed by Hurworth parish council at its latest meeting.

Councillors agreed to write again to Darlington Borough Council about the state of pavements in Elmfield Road.

They are also writing to the borough authority about a possible upcoming planning application relating to caravans parking at Croft Workingmen's Club.

They were unhappy with a letter from borough planning officer Adrian Miller, which said officials were seeking information on present caravan activity on the site.

Mr Miller's letter also said: "The council is aware that the use has continued on the site and monitors that situation.

"I am aware that a few interested parties have suggested the use should not be allowed to continue. But I do not believe it is expedient to take enforcement at this time, particularly when an application is expected soon."

The police report to the council said there had been no reported crimes in the village since the last meeting. Councillor Gill Hepplewhite said youths had been letting off fireworks in the Grange grounds. Police pledged to monitor the situation.

The council's grant from Darlington Borough Council for 2005/06 was announced as £8,821 - a two per cent rise on last year. Councillors must submit details of the parish precept to the borough council by January 14. They said they hoped there would not be a rise.
