ENVIRONMENTALIST David Bellamy was at home yesterday rummaging through the undergrowth of the Winter Gardens, in Sunderland.
Dr Bellamy, above, was in the town for a Botanic Gardens Education Network (BGEN) conference, where he was a key speaker.
He presented a seminar called Talking to Plants, about the importance of encouraging plant diversity awareness.
Dr Bellamy is also the President of the Friends of Sunderland Museums.
BGEN is a charity representing botantic gardens and other centres of environmental education throughout Britain and Ireland.
The conference provides an opportunity for BGEN members to discuss topical issues, including family learning and teaching experts to teach.
