MORE than 1,000 ornamental daffodil bulbs have been planted by pupils to bring a splash of colour to their community.
The youngsters from Dormanstown primary school's Sunflower Group, with help from the area's Community Forum, got down to planting in the flowerbeds of Hills Crescent and Dormans Crescent.
The planting was organised by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's area management department, who supplied the bulbs through the Community Enhancement Forum. Headteacher Julie Pritchard said: "It was great fun and the children who went thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Learning about plants and working towards brightening the community was a bonus.
"The children are now waiting to see the product of their efforts when the bulbs come up in spring." Coun Bob Stanway, the council's cabinet member for environmental improvement, said: "It is so important that we have these initiatives with the children, get them to take an early interest in the environment and foster a pride for where they live."
