SHAREHOLDERS attending the annual meeting of Thirsk auction mart backed their directors' plans to relocate the business.
The new, 100,000sq ft mart and rural business centre will be built between York Road and the dual carriageway on the south side of town. The site will include units for agricultural businesses, and training facilities provided by Askham Bryan College.
"Negotiations are well advanced with Severfield Reeve Projects to award the £4m construction contract," said Rodney Cordingley, general manager. "If we can work our way through the remaining red tape, construction could start early next year."
The existing Station Road site is to be acquired by Persimmon Homes and will include 25pc affordable housing for local people
