A WOMAN was captured on security cameras buying goods with a cheque book which went missing more than three years before.

The cheque book was reported lost to police in Darlington in January 2001.

On May 19 this year, the woman was caught on a closed-circuit television camera buying goods at B&Q, in Portrack Lane, Stockton, with the cheque book.

Detectives believe it has also been used elsewhere on Teesside this year to obtain goods.

The woman is white, aged in her mid to late 20s, about 5ft 8in, with shoulder-length brown hair and a sun-tanned appearance. She was wearing a denim jacket and dark trousers.

Detective Constable Gordon Howes, of Crimestoppers North-East, said: "What's happened is that a cheque book was lost in Darlington in 2001 and resurfaced again in May 2004.

"It is strongly believed that the female wanted is from the Teesside area. The total amount of goods stolen exceeds several thousands pounds."

Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
