PUPILS and staff have been finding out what life was like when their school was built.
They are celebrating the 150th anniversary of St Cuthbert's RC Primary School, Willington, County Durham, all this week, by wearing Victorian clothes and taking old-style lessons.
Pupils have been using slates, chalk and an abacus.
They have also played old-style games, performed Victorian country dances and created an exhibition of photographs, original log books and attendance records.
Today, a Mass for past and present staff, governors and pupils will be conducted by the Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle, the Right Reverend Kevin Dunn.
Headteacher Barbara Simpson said: "The old attendance records make very interesting and touching reading.
"Often, children were absent because they were ill with measles, tuberculosis and whooping cough or even because they had no boots."
