A GRANDMOTHER who won more than £100,000 playing bingo said she was walking on air.

The 56-year-old, from York, who does not want to be named, won the National Bingo Game prize of £100,000, as well as a regional prize of £1,010 and the club prize of £100 at the city's Mecca club.

She completed her win in 44 numbers, the lowest call in 500 clubs across the UK.

She has refused to get carried away with her success, however, and was back at her secretarial job the next day.

She plans to put some money aside for her four-week-old grand-daughter, pay off her mortgage and have a holiday.

She said: "I just could not believe it, I was walking on air.

"You always think it would be nice to win that kind of money, but you never expect it to happen to you."

She plays regularly and goes to the Fishergate bingo hall up to three times a week.

She said: "At first I thought I had won £50,000, and then when I heard it was double that, I was shocked.

"It was the second time I have won on the national game, and about five years ago, I had a regional prize, which was very enjoyable, but this is unbelievable."

She is one of several winners from the Fishergate Club. In July, Pamela Dickinson, from Acomb, took home £81,000. Less than two months earlier, Jean Pilmoor won £202,000.
