Jarrow Roofing pulled off one of the shocks of the round when they beat the much-fancied Cammell Laird 3-1 on Saturday.

The Merseysiders were one of the favourites for the competition, but Roofing belied their lowly league position in the ANL First Division to record one of their best ever Vase wins..

Manager Richie McLoughlin said: "It was a great performance from our lads.

"We'd had a couple of reports about Cammell Laird, and we got stuck into them straight away to prevent them from playing. We closed down their midfield, and they never really got going."

Roofing took the lead after four minutes when a 30-yard shot from Justin Perry deceived the Cammell Laird keeper, but the visitors equalised when Ronnie Morgan scored from the edge of the box.

Gary Hoggeth made a good save for Roofing before they went ahead just after the hour when Paul Hodgson cut in from the right and fired into the top corner, and then late in the game Craig Nelson headed in a corner at the near post.

Injury-hit Billingham Synthonia drew 3-3 at Yorkshire Amateurs and replay on Tuesday.

Synners lost Tony Wood and Shaun Hope because of injury before half time, and went a goal down when Robert Dickinson scored, but Synners levelled when Craig Lake blocked a clearance and the ball looped into the air for Craig Perry to force home.

Lake created the second in more orthodox fashion for Perry to score from close range, but the Amateurs levelled with a long range effort from Stephen Wales.

Lake was again the provider for Andrew Fletcher to make it 3-2 in extra time, but Amateurs levelled again.

ANL Second Division club West Allotment won 2-1 at First Division opponents Esh Winning, who finished with nine men.

The visitors took the lead when Michael Chilton set up Andy Purvis to volley home, but Gary Messer got the equaliser from a Craig Marron free kick.

However, with just a few minutes left, David Anderson handled on the Esh line, and was dismissed. Chilton scored from the spot. Esh striker Tony Healer was red-carded in the dying minutes for swearing at an assistant.

Durham City won their local derby 4-2 at Seaham. The home side took the lead when Willie Crew scored from 25 yards, but Durham equalised when Paul Chow headed in a free kick.

Just after the restart Chow set up Michael Mackay to put Durham into the lead, and after 55 minutes Chow headed the third. He made certain of Durham's place in the next round from close range, before Phil Mustard pulled a goal back.

Bedlington, finalists five years ago, are through after they beat Silsden 1-0 at the Welfare Ground, Robbie Cockburn scoring from a John Milner pass after 36 minutes.

Horden's finishing let them down in a 2-1 home defeat by Salford City. They took the lead when Andy Bowes scored from an Andy McKenna cross and missed several chances to increase the lead before half time. Salford scored twice after the break.

Whitley Bay, winners two seasons ago, are out after they lost 3-1 at Thackley.

Thackley took an early lead but Whitley levelled after 16 minutes when Paul Thompson chipped the keeper. But Thackley scored twice in the second half.

The ties at Dunston and Thornaby were postponed and have been re-arranged for tomorrow night.

The draw for the third round is being held this morning.
