A CHRISTMAS card designed by creative children at a village school will soon be landing on doormats all over the country.

Sedgefield and Fishburn beat officer PC Keith Todd runs a Christmas card competition at one of the three primary schools in his area every year.

This year's winning designs, by five pupils at Fishburn County Primary School, have been printed as his official Christmas greeting, which is sent to members of the Royal Family, Prime Minister Tony Blair and other dignitaries.

The sponsors of the competition, the Rotary Club, teamed up with Durham County Council's school travel planning advisor Noreen Youll to choose a theme.

Children were asked to base their drawings around the walking bus scheme, which the school hopes to adopt next year as part of a safer, healthier way of travelling to school.

PC Todd said: "The designs are very good and everyone who took part should be proud, the winning designs will be seen by lots of people including royalty and Tony Blair."

Headteacher Daniel Eason said: "The competition was good fun, helps show children that PC Todd is friendly and approachable and is very exciting to consider who will read them."

The main winner was Adam Phillips, 11. Runners-up were Sophie Mason, eight; Lucy Gladstone, five; Rebecca Grady, nine, and Bethany Clarke, six.
