YOUNG visually-impaired musicians have had a brush with soap stardom.

Knaresborough band The Hotshots met William Roache and Sue Nicholls, better known as Coronation Street's Ken Barlow and Audrey Roberts, last week.

The meeting came as the group performed at Manchester Cathedral in a carols by candlelight concert organised by a charity, the Henshaws Society for Blind People.

"I think The Hotspots should release a Christmas Number One - a slot in the Rovers Return would go down fabulously," said Mr Roache, of the ITV soap opera.

The band plays a mixture of modern favourites and their own music, and is based at Henshaws Arts and Crafts Centre in Knaresborough.

Several of The Hotshots are former students of Henshaws College, in Harrogate, and are now living in the charity's community housing in the town.

During the summer, they played at Knaresborough's Feva festival, and more recently played for pupils at St Joseph's Primary School in the town on World Sight Day.
