PEOPLE throughout the county have responded in their droves in support of the appeal to help victims of the Asian tsunami disaster by organising fundraising activities and collections.

Staff at Durham Town Hall organised a coffee morning last Saturday morning that raised £415 for the relief effort.

Bearpark Community Centre will host a bring and buy sale this Friday, from 10am until 3pm. Most items will be on sale for 50p or less and visitors are invited to take unwanted items for sale on the day.

People at Brancepeth, near Durham City, raised £300 during a party celebrating the 80th anniversary of their village hall.

A rock and roll concert is to take place at Fish Tank in Neville Street, Durham City, on Thursday, January 20. The night gets under way at 8pm with three rock and roll bands and DJs until late. Entry is £3, with all funds going to the appeal fund.

Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School in Esh Winning, near Durham City, will host a coffee afternoon on Thursday, January 20, at 2.45pm, in the school hall.

St Cuthbert's Phoenix Club in Chester-le-Street will hold a charity concert on Thursday, January 27, at 7.30pm in St Cuthbert's RC Church Hall, Lumley Terrace. It will feature Youth Connection performing songs from the shows and easy listening songs by Les and Friends. The Beamish Mary Inn at No Place, near Stanley, is holding a special evening for the appeal. A world music night is taking place on February 4, from 8pm, and will feature Asian, African, Latin American and European music. Entry is free and collections will be held to raise money for the relief efforts.

A bucket collection held at Asda in Stanley raised £6,250. Staff would like to thank customers for their support.
