STUDENTS at Darlington's Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College are celebrating after achieving a record number of offers to study at Oxford and Cambridge universities.

In all, 11 students from the college have been offered conditional places to continue their studies at the two universities in the Autumn.

Seven students have been offered places at Oxford, while four will go on to Cambridge if they achieve A grades in this summer's A-level exams.

The successful students are Sadie Potter, Carly Price, Ben Blacklock, Alice Gleave, Lisa Herdman, Ruth Steer, Clara Beards, Lauren Prentice, Paul Davison, Colin Atkinson and Robert Icke.

Simon Nicholson, Oxbridge co-ordinator at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, said: "They all worked really hard on their applications and were extremely focused over a long period of time.

"They are not only very able students but are an extremely likeable bunch of young people who definitely deserve to do well."

Student Ben Blacklock said: "It's a dream come true but it hasn't really sunk in yet. There's still a lot of hard work ahead."
