AN ARTIST with a colourful approach to his work has been invited to a university gallery in the North-East.
Brian Chippendale, an artist and musician living in Rhode Island, US, is staging his first solo show in the UK at the University of Sunderland's Reg Vardy gallery.
The display features more than 200 of his silk-screen graphic works and a selection of his hand-printed books and comics.
After studying printmaking, Mr Chippendale became well-known as the drummer in the music duo Lightning Bolt.
In his artwork, he often makes books, comics and posters that reflect current political situations.
Works by Mr Chippendale, who rarely takes part in gallery exhibitions, can be seen in city streets and on the sides of buildings.
His hand-made posters come in very limited editions.
The Reg Vardy Gallery commissioned Mr Chippendale to make a series of limited edition books that will be available during the exhibition.
