A GROUP of students are going on the run in a bid to raise money for charity - by seeing how far they can travel in 36 hours.

Students from Durham University will join their counterparts from Oxford and Cambridge in a sponsored jailbreak next Friday.

Organisers of the Durham Universities Charities Kommittee (DUCK) are expecting up to 100 Durham students to take part in the breakout from Durham City Police Station.

This is the first time Durham has taken part in a jailbreak event. In the past, students have got as far as Washington, Tokyo and Tobago.

The participating students team up in mixed pairs and try to get as far away from the their starting place as possible within in a 36-hour time limit. Those taking part can hitch-hike or try to get free or sponsored travel by any means possible.

Anyone interested in taking part should contact 0191-334 1797 before Monday.
