A PUPIL was knocked unconscious during a savage attack at his school.
The 15-year-old boy suffered head injuries during the attack by a similar-aged youth.
It happened at 8.45am on Thursday in the grounds of Pennywell School, Sunderland. The boy needed treatment at Sunderland Royal Hospital.
The school has launched an investigation into the incident.
A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of assault and was yesterday helping police with their inquiries.
Police appealed for witnesses to contact officers at Sunderland CID on 0191-454 7555.
