BROTHER and sister Tim and Ciaran Jasper will make a splash for charity this weekend when they take part in a sponsored swim.

Tim, 11, and Ciaran, nine, of Sedgefield village, each hope to gain their 5,000m distance awards on Saturday, and at the same time support a charity.

The youngsters, both pupils at St William's Primary School, in Trimdon, were inspired by the story of Pride of Britain award winner Cornel Hrisca-Munn.

Cornel, who was born without lower arms and a deformed leg, raises thousands of pounds through his charity for projects such as the creation of a centre for amputees in Romania.

On Saturday, Tim and Ciaran will each attempt to swim 150 lengths of the pool in Billingham Forum, where they are members of a swimming club, and £701 sponsorship has already been pledged for the effort.

Their father, David, said: "They are always keen to help people in need, such as the tsunami appeal through St John Fisher RC Church. We're really proud of their efforts and they will be especially keen to reach 5,000m with the charity in mind."

They hope to raise at least £1,000.
